“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”—Phil.4:6-7
Worry is not an option to the believer. We are commanded not to involve ourselves in this most counterproductive practice. There are 3 key words in Paul’s admonition that are worth looking at.
First, we are to pray about what troubles us. Prayer in this verse involves specific requests. Be specific; be clear about what you need. Second, we are to supplicate. Supplication involves entreating or beseeching, usually for mercy. “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”—Heb. 4:16
Finally, the seal of prayer is thanksgiving. Thanksgiving says, “God is good. Therefore, I believe I’ve been heard and it’s on the way.”
Prayer, supplication and thanksgiving are three worry busters that will deliver peace in the midst of storms. So find a prayer closet and kick worry out of your life!
